Watermelon Beef
So what is Watermelon Beef?: Well, that's a good question; simply put, it's the name use to market our beef.
But why?: That is also an excellent question. If you know our story, then you know that Kent’s Grandpa Homer was a watermelon farmer and cattle rancher. So we are bringing the two together with Watermelon Beef.
A little more history (Watermelon Beef):Each fall after the melon harvest, Grandpa Homer would turn the cattle into the melon fields to eat any melons left behind (there is always plenty). This would fatten the cattle before the long winter and put nutrients back into the soil. Grandpa Homer was practicing Regenerative Agriculture before Regenerative Agriculture was cool.
Cows eat Watermelon?: Most people do not realize that cattle love watermelon. Nothing is funnier than watching a cow break open a watermelon and enjoy its juicy sweetness. We no longer turn the cows into the melon field due to government regulations. However, the cattle definitely get treated to tasty, tasty Green River Watermelons as a treat during melon harvest season.
Why is Watermelon Beef So Flavorful: During the finishing stage in Green River, Utah the cattle receive fermented Molasses, Apple Cider Vinegar (Cow Kombucha as Emilie calls it), Green Pasture Grass, Alfalfa Hay, and of course Sweet Green River Watermelon as a treat, when available. This combination makes the most delicious and nutritious Grass-finished beef you will ever taste.
